Fostering

All animals at Country Roads currently live in foster homes, not an animal shelter.  When you foster an animal you are buying that animal the time it needs to get adopted while freeing up space so a shelter or rescue can take in another dog.

Fostering is not only a rewarding experience, but it also is one of the biggest ways you can help an animal in need.

Foster FAQ

What does fostering an animal require?

Fostering entails opening your home up to an animal in need and providing a safe, healthy and loving home for them. Most animals also require their foster to take them to a vet appointment before they are adoption-ready. Once an animal is vetted and ready for adoption, we ask our fosters to bring them to our scheduled adoption events to help them find their forever home!

When I foster, am I required to pay for everything for the animal?

Country Roads will pay for your foster animal's vetting and any other medical expenses.  Fosters will need to provide food, and if wanted, they can provide collars, toys, bedding, leashes, etc. We can also help provide a foster parent with crates and food when we have donations.

How long will a foster animal be with me?

This all depends on how long it takes for a foster animal to find their forever home!  The length of time a foster animal is in a foster home varies from days to weeks.

Will I get to choose the animal I want to foster?

When you foster, we can help you find the type of animal that is the right fit for you!  Fosters have the choice between cats/dogs and adult/baby animals!  Because we pull from the animal shelter, we have a wide variety of ages, sizes, and breeds in need of foster homes.

Why should I foster an animal?

While it can be challenging at times, fostering an animal is a very rewarding experience, and in most cases, you are saving that animal's life!  Foster parents also play an important role in socializing and preparing animals for their forever home.
